The SanDisk Extreme PRO Portable SSD 4TB USB 3.2 Gen 2 x2 portable SSD that we wanted to test. This should be in the class of a drive like the Crucial X10 Pro or Samsung T9. Also, having a 4TB SSD in your bag is a lot of storage.
At around $300, the SanDisk Extreme PRO costs around the same as the Samsung T9 and roughly $8 less than the Crucial X10 Pro but that changes based on the day and the discounts. Recently, we needed to purchase a few external SSDs to transfer large amounts of footage, so we bought many SSDs to try.

If you just want to find the drive here is an Amazon Affiliate link.
SanDisk Extreme PRO Portable SSD 4TB Hardware Overview
The drive itself is large at 110 x 57 x 10 mm. This is considerably larger than other drives like the Samsung T9 and Crucial X10 Pro.

The drive claims up to a three-meter drop protection and IP65 water and dust resistance.

On the bottom, we get the label. It says 4TB in large print. Some other SSDs make it hard to see the capacity except for fine print, SanDisk makes it easy.

The drive has a USB 3.2 Gen 2 x2 Type-C port, so we should get up to 20Gbps speeds. This may seem like a small feature, but in the real-world we get better performance on the 2 x2 drives.

In the box, we also got a USB-C to USB-C Cable and a USB-C to USB-A Cable.

Next, let us get to performance.
I don’t think this is what you actually meant to say?
“Overall, this is a drive that seems worth buying if the price is right. If it is significantly more than the Crucial X10 Pro or Samsung T9.”
Would that be if it is significantly LESS than?
Nooooo. How much did ya’ll get paid? SanDisk is permanently stained in this model because of how badly they screwed up handling their hardware flawed but ‘we’ll fix it with a firmware update’ unit that destroyed itself and people’s data with no warning.
Unfortunately, interest (and purchasing) is tied to reputation.
The fiasco of inherent data-loss over the past few years presses Pause on many a buyer’s screen (myself, included).
My data confirms continued confidence in SKH products; unfortunately, SKH does not offer >2T solutions.
Why would someone buy one of these? Are we really ignoring SanDisk’s disastrous history in this market? Samsung T7 or death.
Would love you guys to include a photo showing the size of portable items reviewed relative to a known object like a deck of cards (or a banana). I can get out my ruler, but a photo would make this easier.
